The Freshest Lubbock Flower Delivery

Let's Talk Fresh Flowers

We're excited to share with you some of the behind-the-scenes magic that goes into keeping our flowers fresh. At Don's Flowers, we can't wait to get our hands on the freshest, most beautiful flowers in town. Like the flowers in our beautiful Fiesta! arrangement. But how do we know how fresh they are?

We know because we truck our flowers in refrigeration directly to Lubbock from Miami where they arrive via plane from South America! As soon as they arrive in Lubbock to keep them fresh for as long as possible!

Our commitment to quality is what sets us apart from other places in town. We'll always have the freshest flowers on hand—we just know you'll love them!

Flowers Are Stored In A Temperature-Controlled Cooler

Refrigerating flowers after cutting slows down their metabolism rate which delays the time which they wilt and die. Keeping flowers in a cold environment also keeps them away from ethynyl gas, which speeds up the aging process of a flower.

It’s not just about making your bouquet look pretty for longer—it’s also about maintaining the integrity of the living plant. When you cut the stem of a plant, it loses water and nutrients quickly, which can cause it to wilt and die if not treated properly. Refrigeration slows this process down by reducing the metabolic activity of cells in flowers.

We cut and treat each flower with fresh water and flower food, so they get all the nutrients it needs to last longer.

The cooler keeps flowers fresh, so they don’t wilt or spoil on their way to you.

Each Arrangement We Send Out Has A Floral Preservative In It!

Water and flower food are the key to keeping your flowers fresh. With every beautiful bouquet we send out, we make sure it has plenty of fresh water and extra flower food. If you're wondering how to know if your flowers are getting enough water, the trick is to look at the bottom of each stem. If it's brown or black, then it means that they need more water.

If you've got questions about keeping your blooms looking great as long as possible, we've got answers! Check out these tips below:

How can you extend the vase life of your flowers?

We know, we know. You want to show off your beautiful flowers, but you don't want them to wilt in front of your eyes. Here are some tips to help keep your bouquet looking fresh:

1. Place the vase of flowers out of direct sunlight. It might be tempting to set your beautiful flowers in front of a sunny window, but the direct sunlight can fade the petals or cause the flowers to droop. If you do want to place the bouquet in a window, pull a curtain across it during the brightest part of the day so your flowers get a little protection.

2. Set the bouquet in a cool spot so the flowers last longer. Flowers do best if they're displayed in a room that's between 65 and 72 °F. Don't put the vase on top of a warm appliance or near a heater, since these can dry out the petals.

3. Avoid displaying the bouquet near fresh produce. Your bouquet might look beautiful on the counter next to your fruit bowl, but the produce can make your flowers wilt faster. Fresh fruits and vegetables release ethylene, a gas that causes the buds to fall off and the stems!

4. Change out your water every few days so it stays fresh and clean for as long as possible! We recommend doing this once per week. Change it if there are any signs of bacteria build-up happening in there! It's always better safe than sorry!
